Today is Spring Day in South Africa and the sun it out to party!
To make the most of this glorious day, I set up a little game outside for the kids to try.
We’ve never done it before but it worked quite well and we all had a bit of a giggle.
If the sun is shining for you too and you have a nice open space outside to draw on with a bit of chalk, then you can also enjoy this little phonic ‘hopscotch’ game we created.
I had a few easy words in mind when I started writing the first letters. Namely CAT, POT, DAD, TIN as I wanted my five year old to be able to enjoy the game. I then extended some of the words to make things a little more challenging for my eight year old.
The crazy thing is, they both kept getting words that I hadn’t even had in my mind when creating the grid! he he.
All you need to do is write the letters on the floor with a nice chunky piece of chalk, then get the kids to jump from letter to letter, sounding out the phonic for each letter as they go. Once they’ve sounded out all their letters they must shout their word triumphantly!
The best thing about this game is that it can be different every time!
It’s great fun!
